mayday times 2 = happy-ing

a friend asked another friend
"how many more years are you going to keep going to mayday's concert?"

mayday's first appearance in singapore was in a free concert at sentosa in (i think) 1998
sis and i attended their first street gig at the event square next to cuppage plaza in 1999
then subsequently their first-ever paying concert 《你要去那里?》at singapore expo in 2001 just before they took a 2-year break to do their national service
that has to be the one of the most memorable concerts for me so far
with fans displaying rock spirit and manners at the same time
(me at the 1st row seat determined to stand at the barricade right from the start of the concert and making sure people around me are not hit by my lite stix free-styling)

when they returned in 2004 with their 《final home》tour
it has to be a big bang with good seats (6th row positioned in centre of stage)
and an inspiration for other friends to buy the most expensive tickets like us for their future concerts

then of cos, who can forget the 2005 《final home》concert in taipei!?!
first time in winter clothes, open air stadium and with lotsa space to run and jump!
i love rock zones!!!!!

then followed by 2006 (still part of 《final home》... the longest ever running tour by a taiwanese rock band)
then more concerts in 2007, 2008 and now... 2009

2009 marks the 10th year they have existed since their first album release
and like how they always proclaim singapore as their second home
(next to i dunno how many other second homes)
they have to announce their 29 aug 09 concert in dec08/jan09 for pre-sales
with tickets sold out, they added a 29 aug concert
the first time a mandarin-stream rock band hold 2 days of concert here!!!!!
(have to be very careful when coming to proclaim "first"s)
wait wait! this was even before they decided that the concert will be named 《創造DNA》

so like the mayday fanatic, i have to attend both nights!
we didnt get damn good seats for sat's concert, but it is a refreshing change
being able to see the entire stadium rather well
and boy! the forceful waves of the lite stixs is quite a sight!
fri's concert was damn good though! 5th row and next to the external stage ^__^
always the best!

and i am so glad i was there for both nights
the repertoire was slightly different
and of cos, i have to very often peep at the screen for lyrics as i belong to the gen k(tv)
(yes, mayday concert feature lyrics on the video wall so that non-fans and old fans wont feel left out)

i especially like the solo singings of wubai's hokkien songs by guanyou
for mere fact that he is awkardly funny, thus entertaining
masa's sincere rendition of "明白"
(oh, my long standing love-hate relationship i have with taurus guys)
and ashin's heart-stringing, much-awaited "i love you無望" and "爱情的模样"

a friend who joined us for the first time already chopped her ticket with us for next year's concert
although in my heart, i hope they take a break next year from singapore so that we will miss them a little longer, and thus fonder
but as long as they are going to be here for concert,
even if we have to go with walking aid in 30, 40, 50 years' time
as long as they have a concert, we'll go...

so to that friend's question on our attendence at mayday's concert
the answer is - forever
